Small Business Accounts Available Nationwide

When you run a business, it's a good idea to have a bank account for the business. Yes, you can get away with using your personal account, but it's a bad idea for several reasons: it's harder to keep track of your finances, and in some cases you put yourself at risk for things that happen within the business.

For very small businesses, it's hard to find an affordable bank account. You probably don't have a lot of money to work with when you're just starting, so it's difficult to meet minimum balance requirements (to avoid or minimize fees). What's a small business to do?

Start by shopping around local institutions. Small banks and credit unions are most likely to offer attractive deals to small businesses. If that doesn't work, go nationwide. A recent posting on FiveCentNickel.com (along with reader comments) offers up a few small business banking ideas.
